Online Duplicate Licenses
One of your options is to get a duplicate license online. For this to work, you need to already have a valid REAL ID. the DMV in DC already follows all federal guidelines relating to this crucial identity document. You’ll have to provide the driver’s license number. You can access receipts and other records to rediscover what that number is in case you have lost your original license or it was stolen. Getting name changes and corrections is another important reason to update your current license or get a new duplicate made.
Duplicate Licenses by Mail
It is also possible to get a duplicate license through the mail. Some residents are more comfortable with that method, after all. There are several requirements that must be met, but by and large, they are not overly onerous ones. The processing time is anywhere from seven business days to ten. After fifteen business days, if you have not received your duplicate license yet, then, by all means, contact the DC DMV to inquire about its status.
Updating Your Current License
You also have the option to update your current license. This mainly applies to you if you do not already have a REAL ID or another verified license. You will need to visit a DC DMV branch in order to make the switch happen. You will also need your social security number, proof of identity, and proof of residence. If you are applying for a limited purpose driver license, you will also need to declare that you do not currently possess an SSN.
